Irina Diyankova, PhD, Personal Biography

As a professional, I am a licensed psychologist and health services provider in the state of Tennessee. I specialize in the treatment of psychological trauma and any related mental health concerns, including PTSD, Dissociative Disorders, Anxiety & Mood Disorders. You can see my educational background and credentials in  my abbreviated CV.

As a therapist, I understand how difficult it is to ask for help and how painful it is to talk about things that are not working with a stranger. I feel honored every time my client opens up to me. I treat my clients with respect, kindness, and warmth. In my experience, therapeutic relationship is the foundation of the healing process and I work very hard to help my clients feel heard, understood, and safe in my office. I am inclusive in my clinical practice and treat individuals from diverse and multicultural populations, including but not limited to LGBTQ, racial and ethnic minorities, immigrants and refugees, people of all spiritual and religious affiliations.

Personally, I was born and raised in Russia. I lived through perestroika and multiple revolutions in the 1990s. I was a young adult when Russian economy failed. I immigrated to the USA in 2001 and lived through the experience of being different, through the struggle of adjusting to the new culture while honoring my birth culture. I believe that these experiences taught me a lot about life and human nature. They also have been really helpful in relating to my clients. Since moving to the US I lived in Ames ( IA), Austin (TX), and Knoxville (TN). I also traveled across the country extensively. Currently, I live in Knoxville with my husband and our cat Bindi. Our young adult daughter is a student at the OSU in Columbus, OH. I have multiple hobbies, including yoga, hiking, making art, ballroom dancing, and writing. I practice meditation on the regular basis and find it really helpful. People describe me as warm, present, kind, assertive, and funny.

I am looking forward to meeting you and working with you collaboratively on reaching your goals.

Additionally, I am a Registered Yoga Teacher. I have completed my yoga teacher training in Asheville, NC with Kaoverii Weber in Subtle Yoga. I have been trained as a Reiki Master by William Rand (president of the International Center for Reiki Training). I believe that my personal and professional trainings in holistic healing practices enrich my psychotherapy, as well as allow me to take good care of myself.
